About the ADU

  • ADU Category: Backyard house
  • ADU Type: Two-Bedroom
  • Square Feet: 1000
  • ADU Location: San Jose, California

This was originally a two-story home, where my client wanted to live upstairs, with his growing family, and his parents wanted to live downstairs. This would provide accessibility to the parents, without the need to climb stairs. We performed a garage-to-Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU) conversion downstairs, and remodeled the pstairs area.

Our client requested a well-designed, cost-effective and practical layout, incorporating open-concept floor plans and outdoor living spaces. The goal was to create a 1,000 square foot ADU downstairs and a 1,000 SqFt unit upstairs.

We separated the two living spaces through fire safety codes. Building codes require fire-rated walls in certain places, local fire-access requirements have to be followed, and we have to deliver a higher level of fire safety, so that a fire doesn’t immediately spread from one to the other dwelling. Since we build entire homes from the ground up, we have ample experience in dealing with fire codes, and city and county fire departments. Our experienced team puts the appropriate detail in the building plans, and we build to the plans and pass inspections by the building and fire inspectors.

The remodeled home has an open floor plan, high ceilings and modern finishes. This project underscores our commitment to delivering high-quality, sustainable housing solutions that cater to diverse needs, setting a new benchmark for affordable and stylish living in San Jose.
