In an innovative step to tackle the housing shortage, Yuba County has introduced two pivotal projects designed to streamline the process for constructing accessory dwelling units (ADUs) within the region. The initiatives, comprising the Accessory Dwelling Unit Handbook and the Pre-Approved Accessory Dwelling Unit Plans project, aim to demystify the ADU application and construction process for residents.
The Accessory Dwelling Unit Handbook represents a significant effort by county agency staff to consolidate best practices from various jurisdictions, making them accessible and applicable for Yuba County. The handbook is designed to guide residents through the steps necessary to apply for and construct an ADU, leveraging the Pre-Approved ADU Plans available on the county's website.
To facilitate the selection process, the county has organized standard ADU plan types based on square footage and layout, encouraging residents to download and review associated documents for each plan set. Interested parties are urged to contact the county planning department at planning@co.yuba.ca.us for guidance on utilizing these plans and ensuring compliance with all required steps before initiating the plan review process.

A unique feature of the program is the use of the County's Egnyte file share folder for public access to the ADU plans, a solution implemented to overcome the limitations of the county website's space. This accessibility allows residents to view the foundations and elevations of each ADU plan.
